Albatross Koukairoku

2010 · Windows

Brass and accordion crashing into vocal shanties like a storm rolling across open water. Albatross Koukairoku is a 2010 Windows doujin game that sounds like it was scored inside a ship's tavern. "嗚呼、信天翁号は今日も往く" sets the stage with this bombastic declaration of adventure.

"酒精まじりの吐息は燃えて" turns the mood boozy and dangerous. Then "陸知らずどものブルース" hits you with a weary blues number that has no right being that good. The vocal and instrumental versions of "濛々たる黒煙は咲き" show how much the arrangements carry even without lyrics.

Feels like a concept album about idiots at sea who know they're doomed but keep sailing. Put this on if you want your next late-night session to feel like a voyage you never signed up for.
