The contrast between the source material's gruesome murder arcs and these lighthearted skits is part of what makes them so entertaining. "Oyashiro Detective: Furude Rika's Casebook" recasts the enigmatic Rika as a detective, playing off the mystery elements of the original in a way that's equal parts parody and affection.
The voice cast brings their A-game to every track, and you can tell they're having a blast with the material. "Hinamizawa Village Mahjong Legend" leans into the competitive spirit of the club activities that serve as the lighter side of the games, while "Honest People Are Rewarded" gives that signature Higurashi mix of sweetness and mischief.
The bonus track, "Closed for Today," is a charming little reward for early adopters that adds one more slice-of-life vignette to the collection. As a companion piece to the main Higurashi experience, this drama CD captures the tonal whiplash that defines the series.
The same characters who terrorize each other across the question and answer arcs are here goofing off in Hinamizawa, and somehow it all feels completely authentic. It's a must-have for fans who fell in love with the cast beyond the horror, especially during those golden club activity scenes that made the dark turns hit even harder.
