Aoki Tsuki no Requiem

2011 · Windows

Dark, gothic-flavored rock and orchestral arrangements that tell you this is a Windows doujin game that took its atmosphere dead seriously. Aoki Tsuki no Requiem, or "Requiem of the Blue Moon," dropped in 2011 and the soundtrack splits between haunting Japanese-titled pieces and driving action tracks.

"夜桜の宴" (Banquet of Night Cherry Blossoms) opens with this moody elegance, while "蒼い海に浮かぶ月" (Moon Floating on the Blue Sea) is the kind of atmospheric piece that makes you stare out a window at 2 AM. "mind slave" and "Battle Field" shift gears into aggressive territory with distorted guitars and urgent percussion.

"Infinity" carries this soaring energy that feels like the climactic moment the whole soundtrack was building toward. Then "真紅に染まる" (Dyed in Crimson) brings the darkness back with intensity. The closer, "Vinculum ~ 絆 ~ 生ドラムver," is a live drums version of the bonds theme that adds this raw, organic punch to what was already an emotional piece.

"夜明け前" (Before Dawn) is that bittersweet calm-before-resolution track every good game soundtrack needs. Short, focused, and way more polished than most doujin releases.
