AquaS is a visual novel steeped in Japanese folklore and spiritual themes, and its soundtrack charts a journey from breezy coastal daily life into increasingly heavy supernatural territory. The early tracks set up a comfortable world: "Town Along the Sea" has that warm, small-town seaside vibe, "Daily Life" keeps things lighthearted, and character themes like "Butler Chang" and "Shio Plays the Fool" bring personality and humor to the cast.
It feels like a summer story just getting started. But the tracklist tells a story all on its own, and you can feel the darkness creeping in. "Slight Fever" hints that something is off, and then "Tragedy" and "The Abyss" rip the comfort away entirely.
The spiritual side of the narrative takes center stage with "Muramatsuri" and "Spiritual World," tracks that trade the earlier warmth for something far more ritualistic and unsettling. "Kugatsu, the Living Goddess" is particularly striking, carrying a weight of reverence and dread in equal measure.
The final stretch is where the soundtrack really shows its hand. "Miyuna's Death" is gutting in context, and the way "Re-in-car-na-tion" deliberately fragments its own title speaks to the cyclical, fate-driven themes running through the story.
The closer, "LOOP," confirms it. This is a narrative about repetition, about being trapped in patterns. The music understands that, moving from lightness to grief to something that feels inescapable, making it a compact but emotionally well-constructed score.
