Ashes 2063: Episode 1

2018 · Windows

A total conversion mod for GZDoom that turned Doom's engine into a post-apocalyptic shooter, and the soundtrack is pure irradiated aggression. "2063" sets the timeline with a gritty opening that tells you civilization is long gone, "Wasteland" delivers the wide-open desolation, and "Legions of the Dark" brings the combat intensity that makes this mod feel like a full standalone game.

Vospi's compositions lean into heavy industrial metal textures that fit the Mad Max-meets-Doom aesthetic perfectly. "Life Beneath It All" offers a rare moment of something almost hopeful buried under layers of grime, and "Ghost Town" nails that specific emptiness of walking through places where people used to be.

"Edge of Humanity" is exactly as desperate as it sounds, the kind of track that plays when you're low on ammo and the mutants keep coming. "The Mender Haunts" and "Preying" close out the episode with escalating dread. Ten tracks for a mod soundtrack is tight, but nothing feels rushed or underdeveloped.

Ashes 2063 proved that the Doom modding community could produce original music that rivals commercial releases, and this first episode's soundtrack is the evidence. If you've ever wanted to hear what Doom would sound like in a Fallout-flavored wasteland, this is it.
