Assassin's Creed III The Original Game Soundtrack

2015 · Playstation 3, Xbox 360

Lorne Balfe took over scoring duties from Jesper Kyd for Assassin's Creed III, and the shift in tone is immediately apparent. Where Kyd's Renaissance scores were intimate and atmospheric, Balfe's American Revolution soundtrack is bold, martial, and cinematic in a Hollywood blockbuster sense.

"Welcome To Boston" announces the new setting with fife-and-drum influences woven into a modern orchestral framework, while "Through The Frontier" captures the vast, untamed wilderness that made AC III's frontier sections so memorable.

The standout tracks here are the ones that lean into the game's dual identity. "Connor's Life" carries the emotional weight of the protagonist's Native American heritage and his painful journey between two worlds, while "HomeStead" provides the warm, pastoral counterpoint of the community Connor builds.

"The Battle Of Breed's Hill" is pure Revolutionary War intensity, and "The Aquila" paired with "Battle At Sea" deliver the naval combat music that proved so popular it spawned an entire spinoff franchise in Black Flag. Bookending the album with "Assassins Creed II main" and "Assassin's Creed Main III" is a nice touch that connects Connor's story to the broader saga.

"Desmond's Destiny" and "Temple Secerts" handle the modern-day storyline with appropriate gravity, while "Beer And friends" offers a lighter moment amid all the revolution and conspiracy. "Eye Of The Storm" and "Wild Instincts" are the kind of propulsive action cues that Balfe excels at.

It's a muscular, confident score that successfully transitions the series into a new era and a new continent.
