Assassin's Creed Shadows - Kage No Iro (Original Game Soundtrack)

2025 · Playstation 5, Windows, Xbox Series X/S

This vocal companion album to Assassin's Creed Shadows brings a strikingly different flavor to the franchise's first full journey into feudal Japan. The centerpiece is naturally "Ezio's Family (Shadows Version)," continuing the beloved tradition of reinterpreting Jesper Kyd's iconic theme for each new entry -- here reimagined with Japanese instrumentation and vocal elements that bridge the series' Italian Renaissance origins with its Sengoku-period setting.

It's a goosebump-inducing arrangement that honors the original while feeling entirely fresh. The Japanese-language original tracks are where this album carves out its own identity. "Kage no koe" (Voice of Shadow) and "Mienai Iro" (Invisible Color) lean into the dual-protagonist nature of Shadows, exploring themes of hidden identity and unseen forces through vocal performances that blend contemporary J-pop sensibilities with traditional Japanese musical elements.

"Kurutta Hono" (Twisted Flame) brings a more intense, aggressive energy, while "Mizukagami" (Water Mirror) is reflective and contemplative. At just nine tracks including radio edits of "Mienai Iro" and "Michi," this is a compact but purposeful release.

"Michi" (Path) and "Toku" (Far Away) round out the original compositions with emotional depth that speaks to the journeys of protagonists Naoe and Yasuke. The inclusion of radio edits suggests these tracks were designed to stand on their own outside the game context, and they absolutely do -- this is an album you can put on and enjoy purely as a collection of beautifully produced Japanese vocal music that happens to carry the weight of the Assassin's Creed legacy.
