Volume 1 of the Assassin's Creed Unity soundtrack covers the full sweep of Arno Dorian's journey from privileged youth to hardened Assassin against the backdrop of the French Revolution. The middle section is packed with brilliantly titled action cues -- "Chase by Chase Basis," "Breach Party," "Church and Destroy" -- that make parkour across Notre-Dame and swordfights in the Bastille feel appropriately thrilling.

"Waltz des Thunes" is a delightful period pastiche that captures the aristocratic excess of pre-revolutionary France, while "A Mystery of Violence" pivots into the darker investigative side of Arno's detective work. The emotional throughline of the album is the Arno-Elise relationship, and "Put Your Mind at Elise" and "Belle of the Balloon" are achingly beautiful romantic cues that give the score its heart.

"A Clash of Assassins" delivers one of the most intense combat tracks in the entire Assassin's Creed franchise. The back half builds toward resolution with "The Bottle of Solitude" capturing Arno's lowest point, followed by the triumphant "Arno's Return."

"Battle Royale" and "The Final Target" bring the action to a climax before the album winds down. At 28 tracks, Vol. 1 is the meatier half of the full score and stands on its own as a satisfying listen -- a French Revolution told through strings, harpsichord, and hidden blades.
