Assassin's Creed Unity - Original Game Soundtrack Vol. 2

2014 · Playstation 4, Windows, Xbox One

Volume 2 of the Assassin's Creed Unity soundtrack picks up where the first left off and dives headlong into the bloodiest chapters of the French Revolution. Composer Chris Tilton delivers a score that balances brooding tension with explosive action, and tracks like "Chandeliers and Carnage" and "Storming the Guilty" perfectly capture the chaos of revolutionary Paris.

The standout "Ballroom Fight (Invention No. 13 in D Minor)" is a brilliant fusion of Baroque harpsichord formality with modern combat scoring that feels like stabbing someone with a hidden blade at Versailles. The political intrigue side of Arno's story gets its due with pieces like "Spies, Taxes, and the Third Estate" and "The Nation, the Law, and the King," which weave together period-appropriate instrumentation with the dark conspiratorial undertones the Assassin's Creed series is known for.

"Danton's Sacrifice" is a genuinely moving cue that underscores one of the game's more emotional historical moments, while "Legerdemain" brings a sneaky, playful quality to the stealth sequences. The album closes with the grimly determined "Execution by All Means," a fitting endpoint for a soundtrack steeped in revolutionary fervor.

Tilton proves throughout that he understands how to score a revolution -- not just the spectacle of it, but the paranoia, the idealism gone sour, and the personal cost. If Vol. 1 set the stage, Vol. 2 burns it down.
