Assassin's Creed Valhalla Original Game Soundtrack

2020 · Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Stadia, Xbox One

Jesper Kyd returns to Assassin's Creed alongside co-composer Sarah Schachner, and the result is a soundtrack that feels like standing on the prow of a longship cutting through icy North Atlantic waters. The "Assassin's Creed Valhalla Main Theme" sets the tone immediately with haunting Nordic vocals layered over brooding orchestration, while tracks like "Out of the North" and "Frozen Lands" evoke the harsh beauty of Scandinavia with an almost spiritual reverence.

The Old Norse vocal performances throughout are a genuine highlight, lending an authenticity that most Viking-themed media only wishes it could achieve. The score does a remarkable job of differentiating between Eivor's two worlds.

Tracks like "Kingdom of East Anglia" and "Kingdom of Wessex" carry the weight of Anglo-Saxon England with more grounded, earthy instrumentation, while "Asgard Hall of the Aesir" and "Bifrost" soar into mythological grandeur befitting the realm of the gods.

"The Bearded Axe" is pure combat adrenaline, and "Valhalla Nights" captures those quieter settlement moments where you're just watching the fire crackle after a raid. The bilingual track titles are a nice touch -- "Horni Hljomar - When Horns Resound" and "Drenglynda Skáldið - The Steadfast Skald" reinforce the cultural duality at the heart of the game.

"Leofirth's Honor" and "Fulke's Destiny" give specific story beats their own musical identity, while "Leaving Valhalla" provides an unexpectedly melancholic closer. This is one of the most cohesive and atmospheric entries in the entire AC franchise's musical catalog.
