Atebite and the Warring Nations

2006

Chunky chiptune energy with prog-rock ambition crammed into 8-bit pipes. Atebite and the Warring Nations is a 2006 album by Disasterpeace that sounds like an NES RPG that never existed but should have. "The Athlete's Foothills" rolls out with this adventurous climbing feel, and "Darkplaid Dungeon I" throws you into a boss encounter with Emperor Rofliron.

"The Spirit of Jammage" is exactly the vibe. Pure chiptune groove that makes you bob your head. The track names are ridiculous in the best way, all hyphens and subtitles like a fantasy novel written on message boards. "You Got Super Special Item!"

is the victory jingle we all deserve but never got. Listen to this if you ever wanted a chiptune concept album that doesn't take itself too seriously.
