Deep Loot

2014 · Mobile

Deep Loot is a charming little diving game about plunging into the ocean for treasure, and the soundtrack nails that underwater atmosphere with a mix of playful and mysterious. "Shallow Water" keeps things light and breezy near the surface, while "Uncharted Abyss" takes a predictably darker turn as you descend into deeper territory.

The contrast between the two basically tells you the game's whole arc. "Electric Jellyfish" is the track you didn't know you needed -- bouncy, slightly weird, with the kind of bubbly electronic textures that make you picture bioluminescent creatures drifting past.

"Undercurrents" provides a moodier counterpoint, all slow-moving tension beneath the playfulness. And "Do You Mined" is a pun-titled gem that matches the game's lighthearted sensibility. The "Deep Loot Sing-A-Long" is exactly the kind of goofy bonus track a mobile game from 2014 would include, and honestly, it's endearing.

"Buouyancy" and "Up for Air" bookend the diving experience perfectly -- one about the weightless feeling of floating down, the other about the relief of surfacing. Nine tracks is the right size for this kind of game, and every one of them commits fully to the oceanic theme.
