Degrees of Separation (Original Soundtrack)

2019 · Playstation 4, Switch, Windows, Xbox One

Degrees of Separation told the story of two characters who could never touch, one controlling heat, the other cold, and the soundtrack carries that bittersweet distance in every note. "Reflected Lights" opens the album twice, first as a solo piano theme, then in its full arrangement, and the difference between the two versions mirrors the game's whole thesis about closeness and separation.

"Anxious Heart" captures the tension of puzzles where you need both characters working in tandem but can never let their worlds overlap. "Nordlys" is the standout, a track named for the northern lights that sounds exactly like watching auroras shimmer over a frozen landscape.

It's delicate and enormous at the same time. "Through the Mountains" builds with this quiet determination that matches the game's best platforming sequences. "Divided" hits hard in context, playing during the moments where the narrative really leans into the tragedy of the premise.

And the "Ending Theme" earns its resolution. It's a compact, eleven-track score that never wastes a second, perfectly scaled to a puzzle platformer that knew exactly how much story it wanted to tell.
