Destiny: Eighth

2013 · Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One

A single track from Destiny's pre-release era that carries the mystery of a universe still being revealed. "Eighth" is a standalone piece from 2013, well before the game's 2014 launch, and it has that early Destiny sound -- vast, orchestral, and heavy with the unknown.

Martin O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori were still at the helm, and you can hear the Halo DNA in the sweeping strings and reverent choir. As a solo composition, it works almost like a tone poem for the entire Destiny project.

There's a sense of scale here that promises something enormous, a universe worth exploring. The arrangement builds patiently, layering instruments the way Bungie's composers always did best. This is a time capsule from when Destiny was still pure potential and hype.

Before the loot caves, before the DLC controversies, before the franchise became what it became. Just one track, holding the weight of everything that was promised.
