Diablo III Collector's Edition Soundtrack

2012 · Windows

The Diablo III Collector's Edition soundtrack, composed by Russell Brower, Derek Duke, Neal Acree, Joseph Lawrence, and others at Blizzard, captures the series' evolution into a more epic, orchestral direction. "And The Heavens Shall Tremble" opens with the grandeur befitting a game where you literally storm the gates of Heaven, while "New Tristram" pays homage to the franchise's roots with a reimagined take on that familiar, cursed town.

It's darker and more orchestral than Matt Uelmen's original, but the DNA is there. Each character class gets a dedicated theme, and they're all distinct. "Demon Hunter" is brooding and vengeful, "Witch Doctor" brings tribal percussion and an otherworldly mysticism, "Barbarian" channels raw power and fury, "Monk" offers meditative Eastern influences, and "Wizard" crackles with arcane energy.

These pieces do a remarkable job of musically defining each class's fantasy in just a few minutes each. The story-driven tracks carry real narrative weight. "Black Soulstone" drips with corrupted ambition, "Azmodan" brings the menace worthy of a Lord of Sin, and "Leoric" revisits the Skeleton King with a more cinematic treatment.

"Garden Of Hope" and "Heaven's Gate" score the game's bold move into the High Heavens with soaring, celestial compositions, while "Leah" provides an unexpectedly tender and tragic character theme. "A New Dawn" closes things out with cautious hope — fitting for a world that just barely survived the Prime Evil's assault.
