"Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" brings the playful tongue-twisting energy of Mary Poppins, while "He's a Tramp" from Lady and the Tramp has that smoky jazz cool that Peggy Lee made absolutely unforgettable. The Snow White tracks alone make this worth having -- "Heigh-Ho" is the ultimate work song, catchy enough that you'll be humming it involuntarily for days, and "Some Day My Prince Will Come" became a jazz standard in its own right, covered by Miles Davis and Bill Evans among others.
"Little April Shower" from Bambi is one of those underappreciated gems where the orchestration mimics rainfall with delicate pizzicato, and "When I See an Elephant Fly" from Dumbo swings with a vaudeville energy that still holds up.
The back half delivers just as hard. "A Spoonful of Sugar" and "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo" are pure magic-spell pop songs, "Bella Notte" is one of the most romantic pieces Disney ever recorded, and "Following the Leader" from Peter Pan closes things out with marching-band mischief.
As a snapshot of pre-Renaissance Disney at its melodic peak, this collection is twelve tracks of pure craftsmanship from an era when these songs were written to last generations -- and they did.
