Donut County

2018 · iOS, MacOS, Playstation 4, Windows

Ben Esposito's indie gem about a raccoon controlling an ever-growing hole in the ground has a soundtrack by Daniel Koestner that's pure laid-back California energy. "Garbage Day" opens with this warm, lo-fi groove that immediately sets the tone -- you're here to swallow trash and have a good time.

"Slackers" leans into that vibe even harder, "Lazy River" floats along exactly like you'd expect, and "Raccoon House Music" is the kind of track name that tells you this game never stops being funny. "999ft Below" shifts the mood when the story takes everyone underground, trading sunshine for something more contemplative.

"Mira's Song" carries genuine emotional weight as the narrative gets real about friendship and accountability. Even "Boss Fight" and "Trash King" manage to feel intense without abandoning the chill aesthetic. "Quack Anthem" exists and it's exactly what the ducks deserve.

The bonus tracks round things out with "Morning Shift," "Donut Run," and "Apology" -- little extras that feel like deleted scenes from your favorite movie. With over 40 tracks for a relatively short game, every single moment has its own musical identity.

"Study Beats" and "Hackers" could honestly live on a lo-fi playlist outside the game. This is comfort food in soundtrack form.
