DRAGON SEEDS -Saishuu Shinka Keitai- Original Soundtrack

2016 · Playstation

Jaleco's 1998 monster-breeding fighter is one of those PS1 deep cuts that almost nobody played but the people who did never forgot. The soundtrack captures that late-90s sci-fi dystopia vibe perfectly. "NEW TOWN" has this gritty urban pulse, "CLONE LAB" hums with synthetic unease, and "MEMORY FOREST" drifts into something unexpectedly beautiful for a game about genetically engineering combat creatures.

The whole thing feels like walking through a cyberpunk city where underground fighting rings operate in the basement of every other building. The battle tier structure gives the soundtrack a natural escalation. "BABY CLASS" is relatively laid-back, the stakes still low, but by the time you hit "FIGHTER CLASS" and "W.

D.C. CLASS" the intensity has ratcheted up considerably. "ILLEGAL FIGHT" has this seedy, back-alley tension that perfectly captures the off-the-books brawls. "DECISIVE" is the real standout, a track with enough urgency to carry the weight of every crucial moment in the game.

The 2016 reissue adding "DECISIVE(2016ver.)" is a nice acknowledgment that someone at Jaleco (or its successors) still cared about this forgotten gem. Between "PABLO'S" bar theme, the "JUNK SHOP" browsing music, and the bittersweet "EPILOGUE," there's a fully realized world here that most people walked right past on the shelf.

Dragon Seeds deserved better, and this soundtrack is the proof.
