The 1989 "Emotional Sound" treatment takes Dragon Spirit's arcade FM synth and reimagines it with the arranged fidelity that Namcot's sound team was becoming known for. "Opening ~ Departure" sets the stage with a richer, more expressive version of the original fanfare, and the Area themes gain depth and texture that the arcade hardware couldn't quite deliver.

"AREA 1" still carries that legendary melody but with warmer instrumentation, and the boss themes from A through D hit harder with expanded arrangements. What makes this release special is the multi-platform scope. Drawing from the arcade, TurboGrafx-16, and X68000 versions means you're hearing the same compositions filtered through different sound chips and philosophies.
The TG-16's waveform synthesis and the X68000's superior FM capabilities each bring something distinct to these arrangements. "YAMA" and "AREA 8" showcase the later, more intense stages where the arrangers really pushed the dramatic tension.
The Youkai Douchuki (Shadowland) tracks tacked onto the end are a Namcot bonus tradition, and they're welcome additions. "Boss Sound" from that game has its own brand of supernatural intensity, and hearing it alongside Dragon Spirit highlights how Namco's arcade sound team was operating at a consistently high level across multiple titles in the late 80s.
"Last Scene ~ Staff Roll" closes the Dragon Spirit portion with earned triumph. A genuine piece of arrange album history from the golden era of game music compilations.
