DRAGONBALL Z: american soundtrack: TRUNKS COMPENDIUM I

2003 · Anime

The American DBZ soundtrack has always been a polarizing beast -- fans either grew up on Bruce Faulconer's synth-rock approach and love it unconditionally, or they swear by Kikuchi's original Japanese score. This Trunks Compendium leans hard into the Faulconer era's strengths, and honestly, tracks like "Mysterious Youth" and "SSJ Trunks" absolutely nail the raw electricity of Trunks's introduction as this enigmatic swordsman who casually dismantles Frieza.

"Trunks meets Goku" captures that pivotal moment of trust between two Saiyans from different timelines, while "Trunks Story" pulls you into the tragic future timeline with surprising emotional weight for what's essentially synth instrumentation.

The android saga tracks hit hard too -- "You're fighting the Wrong Androids" has a darkly comedic edge to it, and "Android Battle" ramps up with the kind of frantic energy that defined those desperate fights against 17 and 18.

The real standout stretch comes toward the end with "Trunks vs. Cell" and the bonus Episode #120 tracks, which give you the full uncut score as it aired. "400 Gs" pulses with the intensity of gravity training sequences, and "Palace in the Clouds" brings a rare moment of serenity to a soundtrack that mostly thrives on adrenaline.

Whether or not you think this style belongs in Dragon Ball Z, the Trunks Compendium is a genuinely solid piece of early 2000s score work.
