Drakengard 3 SOUNDTRACK SELECTIONS

2014 · Playstation 3

Seven tracks distilling Drakengard 3's musical madness — Yoko Taro's prequel to the original's apocalyptic chaos. "Kuroiuta" (Black Song) in its international version is the Intoner Zero's devastating vocal theme — a song about destruction performed by the weapon meant to cause it.

It's one of the most memorable boss themes in the franchise. "Descendeus" and "Aethervox" use pseudo-Latin naming that evokes religious ceremony corrupted into violence. "Thundervalor" and "Antipurity" are battlefield tracks that continue Drakengard's tradition of making combat feel oppressive rather than heroic.

The Intoner system — singing as a weapon — means the music is literally the source of power and destruction. "Exvulsion - Phanuel" and "Prevolt - Armaros" name specific angel-class enemies, tying the soundtrack to Drakengard's twisted relationship with celestial beings.

Seven selections from a much larger score, but each one captures the specific brand of beautiful-ugly that defines the series. Yoko Taro's musical direction remains one of gaming's most distinctive visions.
