DROD -- Deadly Rooms of Death -- is one of those deeply underground puzzle series that's been quietly building a cult following since the late '90s, and The City Beneath's soundtrack reflects that with a smart layered music system.

Every area gets ambient, contemplation, and aggression variants, so the music shifts dynamically as you think through each room. "City Ambient" sets this brooding underground atmosphere, "City Aggr 1" ratchets up when things get dangerous, and "Fortress Ambient" has a completely different weight -- ancient, heavy, imposing.
The three-zone structure -- Above, Fortress, City -- gives the soundtrack a real sense of descent. The Above tracks feel open and almost hopeful, the Fortress layers on tension and menace, and the City material hits with this strange subterranean grandeur.
Each zone's win jingle carries distinct flavor too, so clearing a level in the Fortress feels different from clearing one in the City. The "Win Game" and "Credits" tracks earn their placement by the time you reach them, because DROD puzzles are genuinely brutal.
This isn't background music you half-notice -- it's a companion through hours of staring at grid-based rooms trying to figure out how to clear every tile. Understated, functional, and quietly excellent.
