Ghost Master

2005 · Windows

Creaky, playful, horror-comedy synth that refuses to take itself too seriously. Ghost Master had you commanding ghosts to scare mortals out of their homes, and Paul Weir's score nails that campy B-movie energy perfectly.

"A Bit of Quiet Haunting" is this understated creeping piece that slowly builds dread, while "Title Scream" just goes for it right out the gate. The mission preludes like "Blair Wisp Prelude" and "Deadfellas Prelude" are packed with cheeky horror-movie references that match the game's whole vibe.

The "Map of Gravenville" and "Haunter Selection" tracks carry this mid-2000s PC game atmosphere. Spooky but fun, never grim. The kind of soundtrack that knows exactly what it is and leans all the way in. If you played this one back in the day and forgot how good the music was, it holds up better than you'd expect.
