Released in 2021, this is one of the most generous Touhou OSTs in recent memory, pulling beloved themes from across the series and recontextualizing them for oil-soaked underground warfare. "恋色マスタースパーク" (Love-Colored Master Spark) and "少女綺想曲" (Maiden's Capriccio) get fiery new arrangements that hit different in a versus context.
"U.N.オーエンは彼女なのか?" (U.N. Owen Was Her?) remains as unhinged as ever. Deep cuts like "華のさかづき大江山" (The Flower-Viewing Mound on Mt. Ooe) and "キャプテンムラサ" (Captain Murasa) bring Subterranean Animism and Undefined Fantastic Object energy into the mix.
"業火マントル" (Hellfire Mantle) and "霊知の太陽信仰" (Solar Sect of Mystic Wisdom) are standout rearrangements. The original compositions are where this OST carves its own identity. "大地の底、剛欲の海" (At the Bottom of the Earth, the Sea of Greed) and "強欲な獣のメメント" (Memento of the Greedy Beast) carry a heavier, more oppressive atmosphere than typical Touhou fare.
"有機体全てのメメント ~Memory of Fossil Energy." closes things out with ZUN at his most thematically ambitious. Essential listening for any Touhou fan.
