Gradius IV: Fukkatsu (Revival) hit arcades in 1999 and carried the weight of reviving Konami's flagship shmup series after a long hiatus. The soundtrack leans into Greek mythology for its naming convention, with every stage and boss theme drawing from the Olympian pantheon, giving the whole album a thematic cohesion that previous entries didn't quite have.

"Hydra" kicks things off with the liquid metal stage, its fluid synth lines matching the morphing metallic environment perfectly. "Demeter" brings organic warmth to the plant stage, while "Oceanus" floats through the bubble stage with shimmering textures.
"Hades" and "Cronos" share the magma stage with contrasting intensity, and "Uranus" gives the classic Moai heads yet another worthy theme. "Dupon" drives the high-speed stage with the kind of relentless forward push that defines Gradius at its best.
The boss theme "Titans" carries genuine menace, and the final fortress themes "Prometheus" and "Athena" build toward a climax that earns the "Fukkatsu" subtitle. The dual dogfight themes "Apollon" and "Feiton" frame the whole experience with cosmic scale.
It's a worthy return for the Vic Viper, and the mythology-themed naming makes the tracklist read like an epic in itself.
