Gran Chaser is one of those deep-cut Saturn titles that most Western players never experienced, but its soundtrack punches well above its weight. This mech-racing hybrid from 1995 delivers an energetic mix of rock, jazz, and synth that captures the mid-90s Sega Saturn sound at its most vibrant.

Tracks like "Volcano Heat" and "Burning Heat" bring fiery intensity to the racing segments, while "Jazzy Station" lives up to its name with a cool, grooving break from the action. The track names alone tell you this game had personality to spare.
"Leave the Mecha Meddling To Me!" and "Men Burdened With Responsibility" suggest a narrative with real character, and the music backs that up with dramatic shifts in tone. "Knight Gear" has a heroic, driving quality perfect for piloting mechs at high speed, while "Black Market" and "Doppusu Appears" bring darker, more tension-filled atmospheres.
"Cyber Thread" delivers pulsing electronic textures that ground the soundtrack in its sci-fi setting. The two separate "You Lose" tracks are a fun touch -- apparently the game had more than one way to make you feel bad about failing.
But it is the bookends that really stand out: "Gran 01" opens things with confident energy, and "Happy End" closes on a satisfying, upbeat note after "Alicia's Release" provides the emotional climax. "Guitarist" showcases some impressive shredding that feels right at home in the Saturn's library of bold, guitar-driven game scores.
A hidden gem for anyone who loves 90s game music.
