Sharp FM synthesis and MIDI tones cutting through PC-98 hardware with real precision. Hiouden got this soundtrack release in 2008 but the compositions are pure late-80s/early-90s Japanese PC energy, and every track comes in both OPN and MT-32 versions.

"Opening (OPN Version)" hits with that classic FM crunch, all bright waveforms and punchy attack. The MT-32 version of the same track sounds completely different, smoother and more atmospheric, like hearing the same song through two different eras of hardware.
"Stage 6~9" carries this driving intensity that makes you want to push through. Having both sound chip versions side by side is the real treat here. Same melodies, totally different textures. PC-98 heads know exactly why this matters.
If you care about how hardware shaped the sound of Japanese gaming in the early 90s, this is a clinic.
