"Ar Hyd Y Nos" (All Through The Night) closes the album on another Welsh classic, turned inside out by the game's context of blind enemies who hunt by sound. The original score pieces chart a clear descent. "A Walk In The Woods" and "A Warm Reception" still carry traces of normalcy before "Night Falls" drops the temperature.
"Something Beneath" and "Tortured Genius" push into full dread territory with low drones and dissonant textures. "Don't Breathe" is the thesis statement of the entire game distilled into a single track title and a suffocating piece of sound design.
Developed by Wales Interactive, Maid of Sker's commitment to its setting extends deep into the audio. The fourteen tracks are lean and purposeful, never overstaying their welcome. Using real hymns as the backbone of a horror score is inspired, and "Sanctuary" offers just enough relief to make the dark stretches hit harder.
