Manabu Namiki personally curated and arranged this premium album for Deathsmiles, Cave's gothic-horror-themed horizontal shooter that broke the mold of their usual vertical bullet hell format. The original arcade soundtrack was already one of Namiki's finest works, with its Halloween-tinged atmosphere and surprisingly melodic sensibility, and these premium arrangements elevate everything with fuller instrumentation and richer production.

"Burning Halloween Town" sets the stage perfectly as the opening level theme, its infectious energy making it the track most players remember long after putting down the controller. "Hades Castle" and "Waltz for the Aristocrat Ghosts" form a devastating one-two punch for the final stages, the former building ominous dread while the latter provides an eerily elegant backdrop for one of Cave's most memorable final boss sequences.
"The Witch of the Bottomless Swamp" drips with murky atmosphere, and "Gravekeeper's Anger" channels righteous fury into a driving rhythm that keeps the bullet dodging intense. "Crossing the Ravine..." introduces a sense of lonely determination for the extra stages that hits differently from the main game's more theatrical energy.
The emotional range here is what makes the Deathsmiles score special within Namiki's catalog. "Angels' Melancholy" provides a genuinely touching stage clear theme that reminds you there's a story about lost girls trying to find their way home underneath all the gothic spectacle.
"Lost Forest" has a mystical quality that sets it apart from typical shoot-em-up fare, and "Memories of the Ruined Crystal Temple" adds a layer of ancient grandeur. For a genre not exactly known for subtlety, Namiki managed to compose something with real depth and heart.
