Marathon Infinity Soundtrack

1996 · MacOS, Windows

Marathon Infinity closed out Bungie's legendary sci-fi trilogy on the Mac with a mind-bending storyline about timeline manipulation and cosmic horror, and its soundtrack matched that cerebral intensity beat for beat. The eight tracks lean into dark ambient and industrial territory, with "Aliens Again" delivering tense combat energy while "Flowers In Heaven" offers an eerie, almost transcendent counterpoint.

"Guardians" and "Infinity Theme" anchor the album with brooding atmospherics that capture the weight of fighting across fracturing realities. What makes this soundtrack special is how it functions as mood architecture rather than traditional game music.

"Chomber" and "Rapture" pulse with a mechanical unease that keeps you on edge even during quieter exploration moments, perfectly complementing the Pfhor-infested corridors and Jjaro ruins. "What About Bob" brings a slightly playful energy to the mix, a nod to the series' tradition of dry humor buried within its dense lore.

For a 1996 release, the production holds up remarkably well, sitting in that sweet spot between MIDI-era game audio and the fully produced soundtracks that would come later. "Splash" rounds out the collection with a fitting sense of finality.

If you played through Marathon 2 and wanted more of that lonely, paranoid atmosphere Bungie perfected before Halo made them a household name, this is where they pushed it to its absolute limit.
