MONSTER HUNTER HUNTING MUSIC COLLECTION III

2011 · Playstation 2, PSP

Hot springs and mountain villages, the Portable 3rd era of Monster Hunter had this warm, distinctly Japanese atmosphere that no other entry quite replicated. "Arriving at Yukumo" immediately transports you to that timber-framed village with shamisen and flute work that feels like stepping into a woodblock print.

"Yearning for the Secret Hot Spring" and "The Secret Hot Spring Where Hunters Meet" make bathing sound genuinely therapeutic. "Proof of a Hero - 3(tri-)ver." rearranges the anthem with Tri's more grounded orchestration. "The Eternal Mountainous Landscape" and "Sunrise Waterscape" paint environments with sound before you ever see them.

"Plenty Well-Cooked!!" gets a double exclamation mark this time. "The Felynes of Yukumo Farm" is predictably adorable. Japanese instrumentation blended with orchestral combat music throughout. If you missed Portable 3rd because it never left Japan, this collection captures the most distinctly Japanese-flavored era of Monster Hunter music.
