Keiichi Suzuki went back to the MOTHER well in 2021 and re-recorded everything with this gorgeous, full-band treatment that makes the Famicom originals feel brand new. "POLLYANNA (I BELIEVE IN YOU)" opens with that same aching optimism but now with studio warmth and real instruments breathing life into every note. "SNOW MAN (INST.)" strips the vocals and lets the melody carry all the loneliness on its own.
The second half is where NES fans lose it. "BATTLE THEME 1" through "BATTLE THEME 3" get the full treatment, "HUMORESQUE OF A LITTLE DOG" is still wonderfully odd, and hearing "CHOUCREAM ZOO" and "TWINKLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL" reborn is pure nostalgia fuel.
"SOUTH CEMETERY" still haunts. The whole thing feels less like a remix album and more like Suzuki finally getting to hear these songs the way they sounded in his head before the Famicom's sound chip got involved. If you care about MOTHER at all, this deluxe edition is the definitive way to experience its music.
