FM synth space opera pouring out of a PC-88 like it thinks it's a prog rock album. Star Trader is a 1989 sci-fi title and its soundtrack pushes the Yamaha FM chip into genuinely ambitious territory. "Morgana Fortress" goes full intensity with rapid arpeggios and heavy bass that the PC-88 barely contains. Character themes for Lefi and Voct give the cast real personality through melody alone. "ANGEL DUST" and "THE FATES" push into darker territory with dissonant intervals that feel genuinely threatening.
The whole tracklist reads like a space epic, asteroid belts and fortress escapes and satellite battles. Twenty-five tracks of late-80s Japanese computer music ambition. If you dig through PC-88 libraries looking for FM synth gold, this is one of those deep cuts that rewards the search.
