Musical Tengai Makyou Dream Festival

1995 · SNES

Full vocal performances sandwiched between narration segments, like a stage musical crammed onto a Super Famicom disc. Musical Tengai Makyou Dream Festival is a 1995 crossover celebration of Hudson's Far East of Eden series, and it sounds like a fever dream variety show.

"Say Yeah! Kabuki!" has this wild theatrical energy, big and campy and completely committed. "God Doesn't Make it Come True" slows things down into a ballad that actually hits emotionally. "Where are you Bomberman" is exactly what it sounds like, a vocal number about Bomberman showing up to the festival, and it works somehow.

The narration tracks between every song give it this radio drama structure. Very mid-90s Japanese multimedia. If you want proof that Hudson Soft threw the weirdest parties in gaming, press play.
