This score sounds like staring into deep space until your eyes adjust. The NHK Special comet documentary soundtrack from 2014 builds its entire atmosphere around Comet ISON and the mysteries of our solar system. Large Comet ISON opens with floating synth pads and delicate piano that immediately sets a contemplative, cosmic tone.
The five-part Analysis suite is genuinely fascinating, each segment shifting between scientific curiosity and emotional wonder as it moves through Science, Puzzle, and Clarification. Thoughts Toward a Starry Sky gets this gentle ascending melody that just lingers.
The piano version of the main theme closing out the album strips everything back to bare emotion. If you love space documentaries and want a soundtrack that makes you feel genuinely small in the best way, this one does that quietly and completely.
