PC Engine World — Dragon Knight & Graffiti

1995 · TurboGrafx-16

Six tracks of PC Engine sound hardware doing what it does best: punchy FM synthesis with that distinctly warm, slightly crunchy tone the chip was known for. "Dungeon 1" opens with a surprisingly catchy melody that sits right between heroic and slightly eerie.

The battle themes escalate nicely, "Battle 2" has this driving bassline that the TurboGrafx pushes hard, and you can feel the hardware working. "Dungeon 3" goes darker, leaning into minor keys with an almost gothic feel.

It's a short collection from a dungeon-crawler that most people outside Japan never touched. If you're into 16-bit era RPG music and want to hear what the PC Engine could really do with composition, this delivers.
