Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc

2011 · Gamecube, Playstation 2, Windows, Xbox

Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc's score by Plume, Fred Leonard, and Laurent Parisi throws live instruments at a platformer and somehow makes it all stick. "Clearleaf Forest" grooves with this loose, jazzy guitar line that feels like a Saturday morning cartoon directed by someone who listens to too much Herbie Hancock.

"Ghosts!" pivots into spooky territory with playful pizzicato strings and breathy flute. "Does Anyone Have Any Cough Syrup" is a real track name and it sounds exactly as goofy as you'd hope. The whole thing just refuses to take itself seriously.

If you want a platformer soundtrack that sounds like a jam session between session musicians who were having way too much fun, this is it.
