Ridegear Guybrave no Theme/Kaze no Naka no Soldier

1998 · Playstation

Hot-blooded J-pop vocal singles straight off a late-90s mecha anime credits roll. This two-track CD from the PS1 side-scrolling action game Ridegear Guybrave II features vocalist Houko Kuwashima belting over Kouhei Noda's compositions with arrangements by Umio Tsuruta.

"Theme of Ridegear Guybrave" hits you with that urgent Super Robot energy, brass-punched synths layered under a soaring vocal melody that sounds like it belongs in a Sunrise opening sequence. "Soldier in the Wind" pulls back into something more melancholic, a ballad that actually earns its drama.

Both tracks come with off-vocal karaoke versions too. If you miss the era when every mecha game shipped with its own anime single, this is a perfect time capsule.
