SAMURAI WESTERN Katsugeki-Samuraidoh Music Collection

2005 · Playstation 2

A samurai in the Wild West and the soundtrack fully commits to the bit. Samurai Western on PS2 blends twangy spaghetti western guitar with traditional Japanese string work and it has no business sounding this cool. Sneering Town nails that dusty Morricone tension with whistling over plucked bass lines.

Then Howling in the Wasteland strips things down to just wind and sparse percussion before erupting. Running Blade layers shakuhachi over galloping rhythms that feel like a Kurosawa chase scene dropped into a John Ford movie.

The Eternity variations keep threading through the whole thing like a leitmotif that ties both cultures together. Criminally overlooked PS2-era action game that genre mashup fans need to experience.
