Funk guitar and jazzy brass kicking off an anime about a diving club is not what you'd expect but it works perfectly. Sensuibu's soundtrack bounces between upbeat sport-anime energy and these surprisingly chill downtempo moments.
Funk The Django opens with this dirty guitar lick over a tight rhythm section that immediately sets a playful tone. Smash The Wave and Splash close things out with high-energy competition tracks that get your blood going.
But then Pause and Peace Of Mind pull way back into soft acoustic territory. Almost meditative. Townscape has this warm, nostalgic quality that sounds like walking home after practice. The whole 34-track spread covers a ton of ground without ever feeling unfocused.
Sports anime fans sleeping on this one should wake up.
