Snatcher

1989 · PC-88

The original PC-88 Snatcher score sounds like it's transmitting from 1989 through a flickering CRT and honestly that's the appeal. Kojima and the Konami sound team built this cyberpunk world on the YM2203's raw FM tones, and the limitations make everything feel more tense.

"THEME OF SNATCHER" hits with this urgency that later versions smoothed out too much. "DECADANCE BEAT" is rougher here, almost abrasive, but the groove still pulls you in. The medley tracks like "CREEPING SILENCE ~ CRIMINAL OMEN ~ DANGER DANCE" flow together in ways that feel ahead of their time.

Pure 80s Japanese computer music energy. If you've only heard the Sega CD version, go back to this and hear where it all started.
