Crunchy chiptune melodies layered over surprisingly warm synth pads. Ian Stocker wrote Soulcaster II's soundtrack for this XBLIG tower defense/dungeon crawler hybrid and absolutely nailed the retro-but-not-lazy aesthetic.

"Fearless" has this driving 8-bit lead that keeps pushing forward through the dungeon stages. "Deep Fire's Fury" goes darker with minor key arpeggios that match the fire-themed levels. Then the bonus content rules: Surasshu's 8-bit remix strips things back even further, and "All Souls Alliance - 10,000% Remix" just goes completely unhinged with it.
The symphonic mix of "Storybook" shows what these melodies could sound like with real arrangement behind them. Perfect soundtrack for anyone who thinks indie game music peaked in the XBLIG era.
