Space Channel 5 Part 2 Soundtrack Vol. Chuuu!!

2002 · Dreamcast, Playstation 2

Big band horns blast through "Mexican Flyer" like a Seatbelts track that fell into a SEGA arcade. Naofumi Hataya and the SC5 Part 2 team somehow made a rhythm game soundtrack that doubles as a lounge jazz record. "Guitar Showdown" goes full surf-rock duel while "Fountain Plaza" floats on this breezy bossa nova groove that has no business being in a game about fighting aliens with dance moves.

The "Invasion Song" variations keep morphing across reports, each one campier than the last. And that "Kin-Kon-Kan" mecha theme... ridiculous in the best way. If you ever wanted a game that treats funk as a weapon of mass rescue, this is your briefing.
