Mid-2000s beat-em-up energy cranked through that 2003 cartoon filter. TMNT 2: Battle Nexus has this surprisingly varied soundtrack that jumps from grimy New York streets to feudal Japan to straight-up alien planets. The tournament themes go full competitive with these driving loops that make button mashing feel important, and the Kuraiyama map music gets genuinely dark and atmospheric.

The feudal Japan stage pulls in these traditional-sounding elements over modern production that shouldn't work but does. Even the backyard and rooftop stages have personality. So much 6th-gen licensed game music just blends together into nothing, but this one actually tried to match every wild location shift the show threw at it.
