The Music of Diablo 1996 - 2011: Diablo 15 Year Anniversary

2011 · MacOS, Windows

Fifteen years of pure dread compressed into one collection and it sounds incredible. The Music of Diablo pulls Matt Uelmen's original guitar work alongside the D2 expansion tracks and even early Diablo III concept pieces.

Tristram is still the greatest town theme ever written, that twelve-string acoustic over ambient rain doing something to your brain that no other game has replicated. Catacombs drops into this suffocating low drone territory where you can practically smell the stone.

Then Kurast brings in those jungle percussion layers and dissonant chanting that make Act III feel like a fever dream. The D3 concept tracks at the end though. Different energy entirely, more orchestral but still heavy. If you've ever lost a hardcore character at 2 AM, this soundtrack already lives in your bones.
