The Soundtrack of Half-Life 2

2004 · Linux, MacOS, Windows, Xbox

Industrial guitar riffs slamming into oppressive ambient silence. Kelly Bailey's Half-Life 2 score basically invented a genre that nobody else has figured out how to replicate. "CP Violation" hits with that distorted bass groove during the Combine chase and your pulse just never comes back down.

"Triage at Dawn" is the opposite, this fragile piano piece that plays after Ravenholm and it guts you every single time. The physics nomenclature in the track names. "Requiem for Ravenholm" layers this processed guitar over dread in a way that makes headcrab zombies feel genuinely tragic instead of just gross.

The whole score knows when to punch and when to let City 17's emptiness do the work. If you've played it, you already hear these tracks in your head.
