Toaplan ARCADE SOUND DIGITAL COLLECTION Vol.10

2018 · Arcade

These track titles read like motivational posters written by someone piloting a spaceship into certain death. Toaplan's Volume 10 collects late-era shmup soundtracks and the FM work here is some of their most refined. "BRAVE MAN ~ FAR AWAY" opens with this soaring melodic line that sets up the heroic tone immediately, then "CRISIS" drops the boss theme hammer.

The second game's tracks are even better. "LIVE IN FUTURE" and "STILL LOVE YOU" have this emotional urgency that feels almost too sincere for arcade hardware. Even the unused "FAZE INTRO VERSION" is worth hearing. If you think arcade shooters peaked at just being loud and fast, Toaplan's later work will change your mind.
