The emotional whiplash is intentional and it works. "City in a Silent Film" has this cinematic, wistful quality that sounds nothing like the rest of the album. Meanwhile "Love is for Chumps" goes full attitude in a way that's refreshing after so many earnest love songs.
Twenty-two tracks and the pacing never stalls. The contrast between sweet confession songs and tracks with real edge keeps everything interesting. If you want vocal character music with actual emotional range, this collection nails it.
