"Palace of the Earth Spirits" trades its usual mystique for something more foreboding and labyrinthine. "Remains of Blazing Hell" burns with distorted, pressurized intensity. The multiple battle themes escalate perfectly, with "Battle C" feeling genuinely desperate.
"Komakusa Gambling Den" has this sleazy underground cool to it. Even the overworld theme has weight. The whole thing sounds like what would happen if a Wizardry game collided with Gensokyo. If you want Touhou stripped of bullet hell flash and rebuilt as dungeon tension, this is the one.
