trigun the first donuts

1998 · Anime

Desert rock, jazz fusion, and 90s cool distilled into one of the most stylish anime soundtracks ever recorded. Trigun's first donuts album composed by Tsuneo Imahori absolutely defines the series' dusty, gunslinger tone.

H.T. alone is iconic, that opening guitar riff has lived rent-free in people's heads for decades. Big Bluff leans into smoky jazz territory while Blood and Thunder goes full tension with driving percussion. Sound Life hits with this aching, bluesy vocal quality that breaks you a little every time.

Philosophy in a Tea Cup is just... perfectly named and perfectly paced. The whole album sounds like a Western filtered through late 90s anime sensibility and nothing else sounds quite like it. If you watched Trigun and haven't revisited this score recently, fix that tonight.
